Brief History
The Makabata School Foundation, Inc. evolved from a feeding program for street children by the Bread of Life Ministry (EDSA Shrine) as early as 1994. From 1995 to 2001, under the auspices of the Poveda Learning Centre, its faculty, parents’ association as well as members of the Teresian Association, the street children in the Bread of Life feeding program were provided with catechism classes and academic tutorials.
In January 2002, the Makabata School Foundation, Inc. based in its newly acquired site in Pasig City was officially recognized by the Department of Education. The Pasig house and lot was acquired through fundraising efforts of the Makabata Foundation and a grant from the Agencia Espanola de Cooperacion Internacional (AECI). The property was quickly remodeled and equipped with all the basic facilities of an educational institution offering pre-school and elementary formal education.
The Makabata School Foundation, Inc. formally opened its door to a student body of 80 boys and girls for School year 2001-2002.
School Year 2003-2004 marked the increase of the Makabata student population to 108 students, including the initial class of First Year High School students. Presently, Makabata School has seven classrooms, a computer center, a small library, a livelihood center, a kitchen and a basketball court.
