HISTORY

The right of all children to receive education, to be ready to be a normal, honest, truthful, citizen of the country is the reason the rise of MAKABATA.

In Metro Manila there are always children on the street raining or sun shinning, morning, evening, even night asking alms, playing and going around. There are many children out of place and wasting the chance and opportunity of their age to receive education to be educated, to be ready for the future. With some friends from the Ministry of Bread of Life of EDSA Shrine, Quezon City in the crossing of EDSA Ortigas Ave., a feeding program was organized for those children roaming around the Shrine in 1994. An educational program was started on 1995 sending them to the public school in Pasig City where they live with the families and helping them every school day with tutorials. At the end of the school year, March 1996, the program was evaluated and decided to start in a very simple way with those children and at the same time to continue with the group in public school not to stop it abruptly.

In June 1996, it started with a group of 13 boys and girls in a kinder classroom using some facilities of Poveda Learning Center. Also, there were tutorials for those enrolled in the public school in Rosario.

To provide for the expenses, EDSA Shrine which helped MAKABATA, started with idea of receiving donations form the parishioners.

MAKABATA School Foundation, Inc., was registered in SEC on October 28, 1996 with Jaime Cardinal Sin as the Honorary Chairman, Father Soc Villegas and Father Adrian Magnait, some members of Bread of Life, Parents of Poveda, Alumnae of Poveda.

In June 1997, the first batch of kinder graduated. That same year also, a new batch of kinder was accepted...

Through a funding campaign, MAKABATA was able to buy a house that was blessed by Jaime Cardinal Sin on May 15, 2001. MAKABATA submitted to DepEd the petition for permit to operate.

First graduation of high school was on 2006 with the school already recognized by DepEd.
